These Are the HR & Recruiting Trends You Need to Know for 2018

Hiring booms. #MeToo. Tech jobs spreading around the country. 2017 has been a year of rapid change in the workplace, and it’s not poised to slow down anytime soon. But with so many different changes in the past year, what can you expect in the year to come?

Glassdoor Chief Economist Dr. Andrew Chamberlain has identified five key trends from the past year, as well as five emerging trends on the horizon, that will shape how organizations recruit, retain and engage employees in 2018 and beyond. Want to stay ahead of the curve? Here’s a sneak preview — make sure to download the full ebook for more.

1.  The Emergence of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence has been a buzzword for decades, but it’s finally reaching a point where it’s beginning to have a tangible impact on businesses, specifically in HR. But don’t worry — this doesn’t mean software is about to replace recruiters and HR practitioners anytime soon. If anything, it will help you do your job better, often at an attractive price point. HR-focused vendors leveraging artificial intelligence include companies such as Entelo (candidate sourcing), Textio (job descriptions), Textkernal (candidate matching), HiringSolved (candidate matching and recruitment process automation) and x.ai (scheduling).

2. A More Transparent Application Process

Due to evolving technology, laws and society, the workplace has become more transparent than ever before — Glassdoor being a prime example. However, many candidates still complain of the “black hole” that exists within the application process. After submitting an application, or even after several interviews, they’re essentially left in the dark, having to just wait around until a recruiter updates them on next steps. But in a culture that increasingly values transparent processes (think: the ability to track every step in the shipping process), that doesn’t cut it anymore.

3. Increased Support for Lateral Moves

Once your company brings in an all-star employee, you want to make sure you hold onto them. And if their current role is no longer fulfilling to them, it’s well worth exploring where else in your organization they can lend their talents. Whether through rotational programs or internal referrals, more of today’s companies are allowing employees to explore these lateral moves.
