How Covid-19 is Changing the Hiring Process

Covid-19 has changed the world, including the world of recruitment and staffing, and the hiring process. Your staffing company is going to have to make significant changes and adaptations to continue to operate successfully now that the world is in a state where social distancing measures are in place to slow the spread of a potentially deadly virus.

You need to protect your employees, contractors, and clients. In short, you need to make sure that your business can operate in a way that doesn’t compromise the health and safety of anyone who’s coming into contact with your company.

Here are just a few ways you can change your operations to accommodate this new mode of hiring.

Remote Hiring

Remote hiring is going to be essential going forward. You need to be able to assess candidates and determine whether they’re appropriate for the role they’re applying to without necessarily having to meet on a face to face basis where illness could be spread. Here are a few additional areas to focus on.

Consider Staffing Profiles

Right now, the recruitment process is going to look pretty different from your usual process. People can’t always meet on a face to face basis to interview. But you still need to ensure that candidates can show your clients what they have to offer and highlight why they should be selected. This is where staffing profiles can come in handy. Rather than handing over resumes, staff can have a profile that showcases their education, experiences, skills and other information in an easy to understand, a uniform format that allows for simple, direct comparison with other candidates. Staffing profiles really can offer a compelling summary of knowledge, skills, and abilities! With staffing profiles in place, your hiring process becomes easier and more efficient.

Phone Interviewing

For the first round of selection, phone interviews could be recommended. This will allow you or your client to get to know the candidate a little better and to get an idea of whether they could be a good fit. This is generally casual and short.

Video Interviewing

Once you’ve selected candidates who seem appropriate, you can advance to video interviews. This way, you can hear and see candidates. You can see their body language, you can get to know them a bit better, and from this point, you can determine who you’d like to hire. This will feel more like the usual face to face, in-person interview – just without the risk.

Consider Flexi-Time

Many people are struggling to work the traditional nine to five right now due to childcare responsibilities, care responsibilities over vulnerable individuals, and more. Kids aren’t in school. This is why flexi-time can be a good option. It allows people to work their set hours, but at different slots throughout the day, which makes the home-life and working at the same time more manageable.

These are just a few different suggestions that you might want to try out when it comes to post Covid-19 staffing. Hopefully, they’ll come in useful as you map out your hiring process going forward!
