New Recruitment Marketing Updates for Fall

We’ve said it before and we’ll reiterate the point here; Fall is prime recruitment season. Fall is when you need to be on your game and ready to use the most up-to-date methods to entice candidates because the competition is fierce. Hiring events are starting to come into vogue again, online listings are ramping up and branding initiatives are being revived. Here are some updates to consider adding to your Fall recruitment marketing arsenal.

LinkedIn

Most, if not all recruiters use LinkedIn, but have you kept up with some of their innovative updates? They’ve recently launched or will be launching all of the following:

Multiple Images: LinkedIn is now providing you with the option to share several different images in one post! According to LinkedIn’s recent email marketing blast, “Now you can share more of your experience at a conference or upload more of the slides you presented.” This option will be particularly valuable for branding and hiring event promotion!

Native Video: Native video posting is arguably one of the most popular features on Facebook and now LinkedIn will be instituting it too. Per the previously mentioned LinkedIn email, “You'll soon be able to record and post videos directly from the LinkedIn app, giving you another way to share your professional insights and perspectives. This has started rolling out to a small group of members, but you can expect to have access soon.” Native video is great for generating candidate traffic and engagement.

Live Video Usage

Okay, so Live Video isn’t new. I mean, sure, there are new native video providers such as LinkedIn, but the ubiquitious use of the option is new. According to Social Media Examiner, “A significant 61% of marketers plan on using live video services such as Facebook Live and Periscope, and 69% want to learn more about live video.” If you aren’t going live yet…you need to work on how to incorporate it into your strategy for recruitment.

Cover Letter Changes

Many recruiters are seasoned at screening cover letters, but 2017 seems to herald the launch of less traditional ones known as the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) calls them “e-notes.” They provided a great example of a typical, successful e-note in their recent article. We are including it below:

“Subject: HR Generalist Applying for HR Manager Opportunity

Mr. Green,

Your HR Manager position intrigued me because of the dual focus on HR generalist affairs for the entire organization in tandem with staffing, training and organizational development for new ventures. That combination closely aligns with my experience for the past five years with Microsoft.

SNAPSHOT:
HR Generalist; SHRM-SCP; 8 Years in HR with 5 Years in Management, BS and MBA Degrees in HR

HR MANAGEMENT PROFILE:
Recruitment, Staffing, Training & Development, Employee Relations, Benefits & Compensation, HRIS, Organizational Development, Regulatory Compliance & Reporting, Budget Administration

I'm available to interview via phone, Skype, or in-person, so let me know what works best for you. Once you've reviewed my attached resume, you'll see that I'm well-qualified to take the reins of your HR organization and meet your aggressive growth and performance improvement goals.

Thank you,

Annie Lexington, SHRM-SCP

So don’t be surprised if cover letters start changing from long-form to snapshots. It just means that candidates are keeping up with new methods of communication and hiring trends.
