IT Jobs on the Downturn in January

The Numbers:

  • IT employment decreased .01% in January aligning with the downward pressure on jobs that shows no signs of letting up
  • “IT employment growth is anemic,” TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts said. “Even without factoring in global and domestic political uncertainty and the potential economic impact of the coronavirus, the ongoing talent shortage and restrictive immigration policies do not foster an environment conducive to meaningful IT job creation.” Roberts added, “Unfortunately, we do not see downward pressure on IT job growth abating in the foreseeable future.”
  • Year over year, the number of IT jobs were up by just 0.08% in January, an increase of only 4,500 IT workers.
  • Total IT jobs in January numbered more than 5.35 million.
