6 Quick Things You Can Do to Take Your Glassdoor Presence to the Next Level

Ask any savvy recruiter, and they'll tell you: We're in the middle of a job seeker's market. Between consistently declining unemployment rates, a healthy economy and nearly six million open jobs, today's top candidates have the luxury of getting choosy with where they decide to work. Their destination for researching companies and then applying to jobs? Glassdoor.

With reviews and insights for more than 770,000 companies*, there's certainly no shortage of companies for candidates to explore on Glassdoor. So even if your company already has a presence on Glassdoor, it's time to think about how you can stand out from the competition.

Want to know how you can uplevel your Glassdoor presence? Read on for quick tips, with options for both Free Employer Account holders and clients.

1. Add High-Quality Photos

Candidates don't want to just imagine what working at your company is like - they want to see what working at your company is like. And what better way to do this than by sharing photos of your office on your Glassdoor profile? Upload a handful of photos that show off your building, workspaces, dining area, rec room, company celebrations and more, especially if you've got any particularly unique or cool office features. Go the extra mile to make these photos visually appealing by using a professional camera and flattering lighting (this is a great project for in-house graphic designers or creatives). Giving job seekers a realistic preview of the work environment helps them envision themselves working there. Who knows? It might just make the difference between a candidate clicking on your open jobs or brushing your company aside. As a bonus, high-quality photos are a good way to improve your company's odds of being highlighted on Glassdoor's job seeker-facing blog.

2. Respond to Reviews

Responding to the reviews employees leave for your company is a powerful way to not only engage with your current employee base, but also prove to job seekers that yours is a transparent culture where feedback is respected and encouraged. In fact, 61 percent of candidates say their perception of a company improves after reading an employer's response to a review**. A few best practices to keep in mind when crafting your responses:

  • Be Thankful: Let the reviewer know that you appreciate them taking the time to leave their feedback and suggestions.
  • Amplify the Good: Reiterate the positive aspects of a review, and let the author know you agree!
  • Welcome Feedback: If you find recurring themes of constructive criticism in reviews - e.g. a lack of work-life balance, unclear promotion tracks, etc. - let employees know that you hear their concerns, then share how you're working to remedy it.

3. Verify Benefits

Salary isn't the only thing employees take into consideration when evaluating your company. Glassdoor research even found that nearly four in five employees would prefer new or additional benefits to a pay raise. So don't leave your benefits to guesswork - verify which ones you offer on your company's profile.

Thinking about updating your benefits offering in the near future? Glassdoor Chief Economist Dr. Andrew Chamberlain identified three perks that contribute the most to employee satisfaction:

  • Health insurance
  • Vacation and paid time off
  • 401(k) plans

4. Feature a Review

When you get an incredible review, you probably want to shout it from the rooftops. Luckily, with an Enhanced Profile, you can prominently display that amazing review to anyone who visits your profile. When choosing a review to feature, consider selecting one that doesn't just say how great it is to work at your company, but also why it's so great to work there. One that highlights your unique company culture, benefits/perks and most of all, your employer value proposition.

5. Share Updates

There's nothing quite like a timely hook to convince a job seeker that now is the perfect time to apply to your company. So if you have any major product updates, company milestones or even holiday parties, it's worth sharing it as an update on your Glassdoor page. Share photos, links to news articles and press releases to let Glassdoor users know what your company is up to and how well it's doing. A few special moments you can highlight in company updates:

  • An IPO or an earnings announcement
  • A product launch
  • A new office opening
  • The company Halloween party
  • Or even just everyday office life!

Now that you know how to drum up renewed interest in your company's employer brand, it's time to go forth and do - good luck, and happy recruiting!
