Human resources offer a plethora of job opportunities. Not to mention, HR jobs are lucrative and promising. The median salary of an HR manager is $61,290, which is higher than the average salary. 

In the past few years, human resources have become a strategic business function, helping companies grow. This requires companies to hire HR professionals who are more strategic in their approach to work than being administrative. HR operations: payroll management, compensation, and benefits, talent management, among others are now more strategic than administrative. These functions contribute to the growth of companies in ways that were never imagined before.  

Thus, a career in human resources is fulfilling in terms of finance and opportunities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of HR jobs is expected to increase at 7% between 2018 and 2028.

  1. Learning and development manager: Talent development is a part of a long -term strategic plan to increase employee retention and succession planning for companies. To achieve this goal, employers hire learning and development managers who can devise and implement comprehensive learning programs that enable employees to acquire new skills and grow in their careers. 
  1. Diversity and inclusion officer: Building a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace is an increasing priority for organizations. D&I officers build and implement strategic plans that allow organizations to increase or maintain their workforce while making the workplace more inclusive for employees and diverse.

Thus, HR professionals require good communication skills. 
  1. Empathy: Good understanding of human emotions makes HR professionals perform better in their work, as they can understand employee grievances properly and counsel them accordingly. 
  1. Strategic management: To deliver results in the interest of the business while addressing employee grievances can often be challenging. In such situations, a human resource professional is expected to be strategic.
  1. Tech-savvies: Nearly every aspect of Human Resource function is being digitalized. From talent acquisition to diversity and inclusion, employers are resorting to software applications to meet their talent and organizational goals. These tools make operations more efficient and even cost-effective in the long run. HRIS (Human Resource Information System), ATS (Applicant Tracking System), employee experience platforms, and more are commonly used applications. 
  1. In-depth understanding of employment laws: Compliance is a critical area for employers. Failing to comply with regulations can result in hefty penalties and even land an employer in legal troubles. A comprehensive understanding of employment laws and keeping yourself updated is essential to ensure that your employer is compliant at all times. 
  1. Project management: Apart from daily tasks, human resource professionals are involved in large critical HR-related projects. This requires HR people to manage daily tasks along with ad hoc projects. Ability to manage work is crucial to thriving in human resources. A few projects like digitalization May require cross-functional support, which will require to juggle between tasks. Human resource professionals should be ready to take on projects as and when they come.
