Digital Job Fair Brings Employers to Jobseekers Looking to Attain Meaningful Employment

National Youth Hiring Day took place on May 16, and this year, major employers across the country sought to hire young talent with no job experience. Jobs website, JobLaunch, led the spring initiative with the intentions of removing barriers and helping young talent start on their path to success.

National Youth #HiringDay aimed to connect these workers with employers looking for talented youth ready to take their first steps in building a lifelong career.  Leading U.S. companies partnered with JobLaunch and Get Schooled to promote an online job fair to connect young jobseekers with high-quality, entry-level jobs.
With the national unemployment rate at a record low, employers continue to look for new ways to find and hire young talent to fill millions of open positions. Meanwhile, there are more than 4.5 million young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are out of school, unemployed, and disconnected from our economy.

Virtual Job Fair Offers 100,000 Job Opportunities

This special day consisted of a virtual job fair to help bridge the employment gap by connecting the business needs of employers with the career needs of young jobseekers. The week-long event encouraged young people across the country to visit HiringDay.org to apply for and secure jobs in their communities.
National Youth Hiring Day is designed to empower more young jobseekers to unlock a brighter future. The event removes barriers that have historically stopped young people from starting on a path to success and connects them to employers who are invested in the future of Opportunity Youth.

How It Works

Through a simple, online application, young people had a chance to get a foot in the door with leading national employers—including Enterprise Rent-A-Car, FedEx, Five Guys, Hilton, Hyatt, Macy’s, Nordstrom, SIXT rent a car, Starbucks, T-Mobile, Target, and Ulta Beauty—as well as attend place-based job fairs with local community partners and businesses.
There were also on-the-ground training and hiring events in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix—and at over 45 high schools in 16 states across the country—that offered young people hands-on access to skills training, education services, and support to help them secure—and succeed in—their first jobs.
If you’re looking to fill the void, consider partnering with nonprofits, like JobLaunch and Get Schooled, to help recruit young talent into your company. Not only will you find the talent you need, but you’ll also be to shape and mold these young minds to help them succeed in the workforce.
