100+ Employees? New Federal Vaccine Rule Applies to 80 Million People

On September 9, 2021 President Joe Biden announced a new rule that would require private employers with more than 100 employees to require vaccinations or weekly testing. Non-complying employers could face substantial fines. This would affect 80 million workers nationwide. In addition, the DOL will require employers with 100 or more workers to give employees paid time off to get vaccinated.

  • President Biden expanded his previously announced vaccination mandate for all nursing home workers who treat patients on Medicare and Medicaid. The expansion now covers anyone who works in hospitals, home healthcare facilities, or other medical facilities. This affects 17 million healthcare workers.
  • President Biden announced he intends to sign an executive order that will require all executive branch federal employees and federal contractors to be vaccinated.
  • 300,000 educators in the federal paid program, Head Start program, must be vaccinated.
