How do most staffing companies pay outside sales people? Is it base plus commission, commission only, base only, and is mileage always reimbursed? Those are a few questions posed to us by a Staffing Talk reader, Jody Audet of Castle Rock, Colorado’s TPM Staffing Services , and we went on a fact finding mission to get some of those answers. It wasn’t that easy though.

I love soccer, playing poker, reading books of all types and creative writing. I also have a new hobby I am pretty excited about: agate hunting. I’ve discovered the joy of the outdoors and the excitement of each new find. My kids and I appreciate spending quality time while we “hunt” agates together and I have found the relaxing pace of this particular activity to be a useful counterbalance to the fast-paced world of executive search, where I make my living.

What’s in a job title? Apparently lots of imagination. After some serious discussions this past week on fake job postings on Craigslist , and then responding to a Staffing Talk reader who obviously had an ax to grind with the staffing industry , I thought it would be good to have something lighter to end the week. These strange titles come from a compilation by Coburg Banks, a talent acquisition firm in the U.K. .

A New York man with a part-time job was having trouble finding full time work. So he thought some research might be a good idea, specifically, to find out who his competition is for a particular position he is interested in. So he posted a fake job ad on Craigslist, and received over 650 resumes in response. This move is not likely to win Eric Auld any friends or fans among the staffing industry.

LinkedIn has a lot going for it. It won the gold medal in 2011’s IPOs and now boasts more than 175 million users. It’s branched out to more than 200 countries and avoided the awkward missteps that have bedeviled its social rival, Facebook. It reported record earnings for last quarter, and its stock price is near its peak. Anecdotally, a few of my department heads use it successfully to place job ads.

I used that time to try and show off my dexterity, i.e., thinking on my feet (or sitting down as the case may be), and incorporating something we just talked about.

A New Yorker article posits that the Cheesecake Factory model would improve quality control and innovation in healthcare? Can it happen in staffing too? I have never been to a Cheesecake Factory. I’ve seen them all around the country but the thought of stepping into one repulses me. Cheesecake I like just fine, once a month maybe, but to devote not just a meal but an entire restaurant brand around an unhealthy, highly caloric dessert offends the soul.

David Gee’s recent post about fake job ads solicited quite a few comments including one from a Carrie that I felt got to the heart of the biggest challenge in staffing today. A Montana man facing murder and kidnapping charges told investigators he felt compelled to kill two people in Bismarck after having a dream about them that made him suspicious. John Bridges, 42, faces a Class AA felony murder charge and Class A felony kidnapping charge in the July 6 death of Lee Edward Clay, 40. He told law enforcement officials he didn’t find the other person he intended to kill after having the dream in Fargo on July 5.

After a bogus jobseeker used an interview to sexually assault a staffing agency’s manager , the company told her not to file a worker’s comp claim because “it was trying to lower its premiums,” the former manager claims in court.
