Kathryn Clark Melanson, 52, works at New England Personnel of Hartford LLC , an employment agency in Rocky Hill that finds work for people in a wide range of fields. Melanson is a self-professed workaholic, according to her page on the employment agency’s website.

[Manpower Blogs]. 300 jobs will be available : Workforce Alliance, Palm Beach County’s employment agency, will be hiring for the jobs, mostly temporary, to install the turbines. [Sun Sentinel]. New York art auction house Sotheby’s went this route on July 29 when 43 art handlers/union members were told not to come to work on Aug. 1. Investigative journalism pays off when jobs are on the line. We linked to an article in our Aug. 3 News of the Day about 300-plus wind turbine installation jobs available in Palm Beach County, Fla. The article, published by the Sun Sentinel, said the Workforce Alliance employment agency would be hiring temporary workers to install 80 wind turbines on a 16,000-acre site in the Glades, for a project called Wind Power Project Breeze.

Cooper. “I just spoke with him yesterday,” she gasps, barely able to contain herself. As Canada deals with a potential long-term labor shortage, both the Alberta Federation of Labor (AFL) and Alberta government officials are voicing concerns about the nation’s policies on temp staffing and immigration. Thomas Lukaszuk, Alberta’s immigration minister, is concerned that the nation’s program to encourage employers to hire foreign workers – called the Temporary Foreign Worker Program – is too focused on helping employers find labor and not enough on fostering actual immigration.

First, the National Labor Relations Board was against Facebook firings , filing lawsuit after lawsuit against companies who terminated employees for complaining about their jobs on the site. Their defense was that writing, “I f ing hate working for Company X!” on Facebook was a “protected concerted activity” under the National Labor Relations Act , which allows workers to discuss among themselves wages, benefits and working conditions.

IKEA workers at a Danville, Virginia factory got what they wanted – union representation – after a long, drawn-out battle with the Swedish furniture corporation. The workers voted 221-69 on July 27 to have the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers watching their back. At 6:15 a.m. Aug. 1, 120 union workers showed up at Moorhead, Minn.’s American Crystal Sugar factory to begin work. They were told to “beet it,&# and were replaced with temporary workers. This is what happens when you refuse to accept labor contracts at the largest beet sugar producer in the nation. According to numerous reports, around 1,300 plant workers throughout Minnesota, Iowa and North Dakota rejected the company’s new contract.
