WORDS NOT TO SAY DURING A JOB INTERVIEW

Wanna know what words to avoid during an interview? Well we’re gonna tell you! Here are some words that won’t do you any favors:

1. PERFECTIONIST.  Aka procrastinator.  Perfectionists often put off work because they are intimidated by the expectations, and they need clear guidelines so they don’t waste time on unimportant things.  Instead, say detail oriented.

2. MULTITASKER.  This word tells people that you’re unfocused.  Our brains are incapable of focusing on multiple tasks at the same time.  Instead, the brain switches between tasks and gives the illusion of multitasking.  The bottom line: serious productivity can be lost.  These candidates might work hard, but they won’t work smart.  What could you say instead? Try: organized.

3. PEOPLE-PERSON.  This is a buzz word for roles in sales, HR, customer service, recruiting.  This phrase has no meaning, and is often said by someone who doesn’t understand the job.  Try saying collaborative, customer-focused or client-facing.

4. INTELLIGENT.  Someone who calls themselves intelligent takes pride in their ability to master tasks quickly.  They prefer easier tasks and are more competitive among others.  That means they might avoid unfamiliar tasks and react poorly to failure.  Instead, go for analytical, big-picture thinker, fast learner.
