Four Tips to Supercharge Your Recruiting in 2016

Newsflash: Recruiting is a results-oriented business. But in a business that depends so much on other people, the only way to guarantee good results is by upping your game by focusing on the fundamentals.

Here are four can’t-miss ways to supercharge your results this year.

Get networking.

And not just social! Recruiting is a people-first business and networking is essential. Platforms like Eventbrite and Meetup are a treasure trove of high quality events near you. Set a goal of two networking events a month, and don’t forget those business cards. You’ll be amazed how much talking to strangers in person can drive positive outcomes.

And don’t neglect your online networking either. You probably spend an insane amount of time on LinkedIn, but what about Twitter, Facebook, Quora or even Reddit? All are great platforms to meet, engage and have conversations with people. In the recruiting hustle, meeting new people and sustaining friendships are both priceless.

Set specific but realistic goals between recruiters and hiring managers.

The difference between the ideal candidate and the reality of the talent hunt can result in avoidable slowdowns in the hiring process. Well-articulated shared goals promote efficiency and reduce friction, empower you and your team to achieve more than you might otherwise.

During your next team meeting, brainstorm ten things your team wants to achieve this year. Now cross out five. Keep the remaining list somewhere your team will see it every day. Need help staying focused? Try any of the dozens of free apps great for tracking goals and tasks (Evernote, Asana, Todoist and Trello are just a few of our favorites). Schedule regular team check-ins and remember, it’s okay not to achieve all of your goals. Goals are guidelines, not laws.

Create healthier habits.

When you’re under pressure it’s easy to start skipping lunch or the gym and then forget to look up from your computer for a few hours.

It happens. Now snap yourself out of it. Creating positive, healthy habits can revolutionize your life. Developing habits like meditating, walking every day, and eating healthy has the power to supercharge your brain.

Your mental and physical health are what allow you to be creative, inventive and innovative. Take good care of them, and they’ll take care of you.

Be confident.

Confidence is empowering. It turns thoughts into action and actions drive results. This TED video is an outstanding four minute tutorial on the revolutionary power of confidence.

As the first point of contact, a recruiter’s confidence and belief will strongly influence how candidates view the company. Knocking that first impression out of the park is essential.

In short, this year you should meet lots of new people, keep yourself goal-oriented, take good care of yourself, and be confident. If you think that sounds simple, you’re right. So what are you waiting for?
