The Recruiter’s Dilemma-Why People Do Not Turn Up For Interview

Last Updated: December 16, 2021

Are candidates NOT turning up for an in-person interview in your office? Not even the ones who promised & messaged you a big YES? Not even the ones who assured you thrice on call that they would?

Do not panic. You are NOT alone.

Every possible recruiter across the globe belonging to every probable domain has faced this problem at some point in time. Truth be told, most of the recruiters who recruit candidates for entry-level positions face this problem on a daily basis. The magnitude of this problem is so high, and the problem has been occurring for such a long time, it is an utmost surprise that there exists none who claims to solve this problem.

The missing key in the Recruitment Ecosystem: TECHNOLOGY

The core philosophy behind Workex is to find a solution to recruiters’ problems by leveraging technology and implementing it with the framework of platform-based approach ensuring scalability and ease of usage in the long run for the end user. Who is the end user? Of course, it’s the job seeker and the recruiter. Coming back to the problem of people not turning up for an interview even after promising that over a phone call. In order to understand the core of this problem, we went into the psyche of the individual who is either looking for an entry-level job or is working at an entry-level job and is looking for a switch. So, what are the factors that help a person choose a job? Let us list down a few prominent ones

  • Compensation (for obvious reasons) – It helps pay rent and shopping bills
  • Location (for obvious reasons) – Ease of transportation, helps save money and time to travel which can be spent elsewhere doing something more productive
  • Type of Job – Very important. People do aspire to do a certain type of job only
  • Increment factor – Important for people deciding to switch from an existing role
  • Job timings – Most of the people I have met want to avoid night shift but do it for incentives or maybe a lack of good option otherwise (I may be wrong on this one)

Then there are several other reasons as well which affect people’s decision but if we assume that a candidate is actually interested in attending an interview but still gives it a miss, why would that be the case?

The answer to this is the “Cost of actually attending an interview borne by the candidate”. After a lot of back and forth on the results we gathered and analyzing other data points, we finally agreed on one common observation.

Eureka!

We will have to provide a medium to both recruiter and job-seeker so that they can interact with each other in real time whenever it is convenient mutually.

In short, we call it – Video Calling based Interviews 🙂

Building the Technology-based Infrastructure for Recruitment ecosystem

It’s everywhere. Nothing new, but still NOT being used for what it should be used for. None of the recruitment platforms provides it for the masses. WhatsApp has it. Every possible chat platform has it but of course, a recruiter cannot discover candidates on WhatsApp or any other app. Discovery was the first problem we focused on. But once discovery is solved, how do you enable communication. It is the key to the mystery door of recruitment.

Video Calling it is – We call it Recruitment at Fingertips!

For Recruiter: Schedule an interview by fixing date and time (that’s all) and screen the candidate via video calling right from the platform. Save costs on paying rent for a huge physical presence to conduct interviews.

It’s awesome.

Do you want Sales Guys? Want to check communication skills and appearance? Video call them, talk to them and judge instantly. Don’t wait for them to walk up to you… Go right there where the candidate is present (digitally!) and conduct the interview!

We are very much aware that Skype, Zoom, and GoToMeeting are already quite popular with recruiters, but it is limited to the top layer of positions. This trend, however, is largely missing from the recruitment at the entry-level positions which contribute to the bulk of hiring in the country.

We want to change that. Fundamentally, technology adoption results in enablement of the masses towards a better, brighter and beautiful standard of living for human beings.

Believing in the mission of spreading tech usage among the masses, we have launched Video Calling for the masses specifically focusing on the problem of recruitment. Our discovery section already enables talent search instantaneously. Adding icing on the cake, we have launched the Video calling feature for a select few as of now. We want to test the feature, take feedback, iterate and then scale it up massively for almost every recruiter in the country. One step at a time, hiring is one step closer towards a frictionless experience for recruiters.

For a job-seeker, it is a boon in disguise. As a job-seeker, now recruitment will be not only at your doorstep, but a recruiter will be able to reach out to you whenever you want it to happen.

It is freedom 2.0. Attend as many video interviews as possible, showcase your skills without spending a fortune on traveling.  Get hired at your doorstep (Literally)
