Time’s Person of the Year for 2022? We’re Predicting... Recruiters!

TKTK

Talent.

It’s not only what you do, it’s what you have.

Talent for spotting undiscovered stars. For building pipelines that make energy companies green with envy. For painting a picture of the future that includes both your candidate and your company.

And you.

Because your organization’s future is in your hands. Talent will be the key differentiator between the companies that soar and those that sink.

You may have noticed that your organization’s leaders are paying more and more attention to how your recruiting team is doing — who you’re hiring, how quickly you’re hiring, and how you’re moving your org toward its ambitious diversity and inclusion goals.

Clearly, you’re in the hot seat. And you think that’s the best seat at the table.

Your job isn’t easy. It comes with enormous pressure, relentless demands, and impossible timelines. You have to navigate the shoals of both COVID-19 and the Great Reshuffle. You have to account for the dramatic shifts taking place in century-old constructs of how work gets done. And when and where it gets done.

The “9 to 5 in the office” is being supplanted — slowly in some places and overnight in others — by “work anytime, anyplace.”

In the new world of work, you may not be constrained by geography. Candidates can live anywhere, not just within 30 miles of HQ.

This seismic shift brings both opportunities (you can recruit from anyone’s neighborhood, not just your own) and challenges (how to get the word out to talented people who may not know your company well — or at all).

One of your first orders of business in 2022, as it was last year, will be to find more teammates. There is still an overwhelming need for more recruiters.

So, you have to figure out how to onboard new recruiters at scale and maintain your culture. You also have to make sure your key teammates aren’t reshuffling. Internal mobility will not only be integrated into your sales pitches and talent searches, it will be central to your own team’s retention efforts.

Yes, recruiters are increasingly in demand, and your roles are increasingly demanding.

You are both the foot soldiers and the four-star generals in the war for talent. It won’t be won without ruthless prioritization. Without nimble technology driven by sophisticated algorithms. Without grit and determination. Without a clear sense of where your company is going and how it’s going to get there.

Most of all, it won’t be won without you.

Here’s wishing that 2022 is your best year ever.
