I had the opportunity to interview Trish Wyderka for my blog, a highly skilled sourcer who has made significant contributions to our recruiting community. I was lucky to connect with her over the past few years and benefit from her extensive knowledge in recruiting tools and overall technical sourcing knowledge. She is a Lead Researcher at Fidelis Companies and is also the founder of a 12-year-old resume editing service. Trish will be a speaker at the upcoming SourcCon event in spring 2023

 

 

Tell us about your work experience in sourcing – how did you get your start, how did you progress, where are you at this point in time?

Trish: Glad you asked… I have to say I fell into it. When I applied at Fidelis Companies in 2011, I was going for the Executive Assistant role. From what I understand it was hard to pick between me and another candidate. My background in the military, mortgage & medical practice management with transferrable skills led to position being created just for me as a Research Associate. I started out doing candidate outreach via email and phone but that was not something I was really interested in doing. I went to my first SourceCon conference in 2013 where I was guided by Steve Levy and Dean Da Costa as a “green” sourcer. Flash forward to February 2023, I have been the R & D (no candidate outreach) expert for Fidelis Companies supporting a team of 15+ recruiters & account managers in four different industries. Additionally, I am the DBA for our internal ATS ensuring we are kept up do date with the most accurate information possible and overhauling files that have not been refreshed in some time. Where am I now? I am blessed to be a DFW and national speaker for numerous organizations and companies. I still attend recruiting and sourcing conference because learning never ends no matter how long one has been in their industry.

 

What are the unique talents you bring to the field?

Trish: What do I bring to the table? As a neurodiverse employee I believe my “out of the box”, in “left-field” thinking allows me to see past information presented. My dad says if I ever played the lottery I might win one day with the way I think.

 

Share your biggest success story in sourcing so far?

Trish: I am most proud of accidentally stumbling upon lists of potential leads and researching them in my free time. You know the “don’t ask how I found 10K individuals and email addresses” or “400+ resumes on an FTP list from an organization in another country” kind of lists.  Some may say why do that and spend so much time on it? What is the ROI? For me, the ROI is placing a candidate for a client six times with a large spread.

What’s your favorite recruiting tech tool?

Hm… that is hard – my brain, of course, and HireEZ. HireEZ allows me to work more efficiently while supporting my team. I would have to have another sourcer in my organization if I did not have it.

 

What do you hope to achieve in 2023?

Trish: Better balance time between work & home. Additionally, finish getting rid of “data” I have collected & stored over the last few years. I started clearing out data in my files in December 2022 and revamping the way I approach a research project which has enabled me to be more productive.

 

Any future predictions on talent sourcing?

Trish: I do not see it going away anytime soon. I know people are worried about AI and such, for me, I try to remember how it was when computers came out and everyone was scared. I still have a job 20+ years later and can do it more efficiently with technology.
