The Must-Read Articles for Talent Professionals This Week

Man looking at smartphone and walking dog in the snow

Every New Year, you can expect three things:

  1. Debates on the validity of making New Year’s resolutions. And no matter where you land, we still think you should read our recruiter resolutions post. (Spoiler: Why wouldn’t you resolve to take more vacation in 2024?)
  2. Debates on when it’s still OK to wish someone a “Happy New Year.” (First week of January? Midmonth? February 1?)
  3. An inundation of predictions for the year, including our own roundup of learning and development predictions from industry experts.

Resolutions and New Year’s wishes aside, sometimes the trouble with prediction stories is that after a while they become, well, predictable. So where should we turn for outside-the-box predictions?

One place to go is the top of our list below of must-read articles for talent professionals. There you’ll find future-of-work expert Daan van Rossum’s compilation of “nonobvious” predictions for 2024, all based on his conversations with other industry leaders.

Here are a few highlights of what you can learn from Daan’s piece:

  1. Why a mythical creature with 12 hooves and three horns could make an appearance in 2024.
  2. Why all companies, no matter the industry, should be paying close attention to manager well-being.
  3. Why one contentious aspect of the world of work will “hold steady, then increase like a Nike swoosh.”

And further down our list below, you can also learn how remote workers can up their soft-skill game; what DEI will look like in 2024; and how gender plays a factor in the types of questions that engineering candidates ask in an interview.
