More and more, candidates are applying for jobs not to get a new role at a new company but to get a new salary — at their old company.

“[O]ver the past year,” Business Insider reports, “in the midst of a nationwide hiring frenzy, employees began to realize that being loyal to their employers doesn’t pay.” 

For recruiters, of course, this is a giant headache — getting turned down by candidates whom you’ve invested enormous amounts of time and effort in and who were just playing you the whole time. 

Business Insider looks at companies that have largely eliminated the need for their employees to shop around by, first, constantly monitoring the market to see what the going rate for different roles is and, second, by rewarding performance throughout the year.
