The Process of Making a Company Culture Video

Ryan Doerpinghaus, Intern, Digi-Me

The company culture video can give a jobseeker a fresh visual on a company culture. It answers questions like: Who is the employer? What are the people like? Will I fit in?

The steps for making a company culture video are as follows:

Planning the video

Before you can even make the video, there are a few things to keep in mind. Organize your thoughts and ask yourself the following:

  • Who do you want to present it to?
  • What do you want to present?
  • How do you want to present it?

For your target audience, there are multiple factors for who you are searching for. For example, are you looking for people who have experience in the tech industry, or for people who have a medical degree in a specific field? Having an idea of who your audience is helps prepare you in making the video.

For the format of the video, do you want to present what the company’s goal is, what the work environment is like, the opportunities the company provides for its employees and/or the community, or a combination of each one? What you want to show can impact the pre-planning process.

In how you want to present it, there are a number of choices. For example, you could use employee testimonials to explain what it is like to work for the company.  Filming the workspace to give a tour of the company or using photographs or footage from past events celebrating the company employees and/or the community are also good ideas as well.

Filming the video

During the filming process, it is important to know how long your video should be. If it’s too short, the message won’t be properly conveyed and if it’s too long, it will bore the viewer. Depending on what social media platform you plan to present your video and how much of your message you want to convey, a typical video should last between 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

For filming, pick locations and people that will be relevant to your video. It is a good idea if you plan to film in the office to do some test filming using something like your phone beforehand. This way you will know ahead of time of what works and what doesn’t.

Office personnel should be given a heads up about the filming in order to avoid catching them in any awkward situations. Make sure to use high standard filming equipment or hire a professional video company so that the final video doesn’t look like a cheap film project. On the actual filming day, make sure the location(s) are clean and presentable, but don’t glam it up just for the shot. The video should represent the company as is. When having people talk for the film, let them speak their own thoughts, not scripted, so that it feels real to the viewer.

Editing the film

When you have enough footage, you can start the editing process. If you have the budget, it can help to hire a video production company to come in to give advice on what you could do or to help film and edit the entire video. A recruitment video production company will have the expertise and knowledge to help portray the message and appeal to your audience.

Tracking your results is important too. You will want to share your video with the world and you will want to know where your cultural video is being viewed and shared. Digi-Me’s patented technology can help with a targeted approach and better social outreach. Schedule a demo today and learn more.
