Hard-to-fill roles? Endless reqs? Shrinking budgets? Candidate ghosting?

To the list of ongoing recruiter headaches, add candidate fraud, according to Employee Benefit News. “Candidate fraud goes beyond embellishing experiences during an interview or on a resume,” Satish Kumar, founder of Glider AI, tells EBN. “We have seen everythings from deep fakes to lip-syncing.”

Deep fakes? Those would be digitally altered candidates who appear as someone other than who they are for online interviews. Yes, that’s weird in so many ways. Kumar says the most common form of cheating is using Google and other tools while taking skills tests.

The article, which is at the top of our list below of must-read stories for talent professionals, recommends that companies create clear guidelines about their hiring processes and their assessments and communicate them effectively to candidates.

Elsewhere in this week’s list, you can read why HBR says the most essential retention strategy is investing in managers; discover why a highly respected Stanford business school professor believes the recent layoffs in Silicon Valley stemmed from “social contagion”; and learn about the new AI-chatbot that can generate everything from click-bait headlines to snappy jokes. And don’t miss the interview Work in Progress has with Matt Sigelman, president of the Burning Glass Institute, in which he details the four skills with the greatest potential to disrupt the current workplace.
