Great company benefits may vary based on the organization, but generally they can include things like health and dental insurance, retirement plans, vacation and sick leave, flexible schedules, tuition reimbursement, and paid parental leave. Additionally, more and more companies are offering unique benefits like pet insurance, gym memberships, and wellness programs. Ultimately, it’s important to weigh the benefits that are the most important to you and find a company that offers them.

Key Company Benefits

While candidates weigh these benefits against each other during negotiating multiple offers, benefits can be an important tool for the recruiter to entice a prospective candidate and convert them to a new hire.

January is a great a time to re-evaluate your stance in the labor market and what benefits you have to offer. We asked recruiters if they have any unique benefits that their company offers, and which of the usual ones are most sought after by candidates in their sourcing conversations.

  • Good or high company paid medical benefits: 9%
  • A sizable Paid Time Off (PTO) offering: 31%
  • Retention bonuses or other money offered: 43%
  • Other: 17%

Not surprising, money is a big motivating factor for candidates as we ring in 2023, which isn’t far off from the last year (in addition to remote work and flexibility because, well, time is money).

Here are a few of the “other” comments:

“Flexible hours and unlimited holidays if you get your work done.”

“Every second Friday off, life insurance, good pension, and flexible working.”

“Improved work life balance – remote work or hybrid schedules.”

“Let people know how important they are to the company with recognition and compensation. A boss giving someone a day off or cash award goes along way. When I was a commander in the Air Force, I used to do a “text of kindness” to Airmen…cold text them and say thanks with a day off pass they can use whenever they want.”

Time is Money

The moral of the story here is that candidates understand their time is worth money, and that they value their time outside of the SCIF. So, what benefits does your company offer to attract candidates or retain employees? It better be a hybrid work schedule or a retention bonus in lieu of if you want to remain a top contender in the 2023 recruitment game.
