The 10 Must-Read Articles for Recruiters This Week

Top recruiting stories of the week

Do you hear something? A distant, rhythmic thumping that seems to be growing louder with every month?

If you are, don’t be alarmed. What you’re hearing is likely workers — and a growing number of companies and even some national governments — beating the drum for a four-day workweek. Following in the footsteps of Iceland and Spain, the United Kingdom recently announced a pilot program to research the possible benefits of a 32-hour workweek. The trial will run for six months starting this summer, with 30 U.K. companies participating and agreeing to reduce hours without docking employee pay or benefits.

"The four-day week challenges the current model of work,” says Joe O’Connor, global pilot program manager at the nonprofit and advocacy group 4 Day Week Global, “and helps companies move away from simply measuring how long people are ‘at work,’ to a sharper focus on the output being produced.”

To find out more about the U.K.’s new program, be sure to check out the top spot in our list below of must-read articles for talent professionals. And further down the list, you can also learn what experts predict the future of work will look like; why the frustrating perception that “recruiting is easy” can be seen as a compliment; and which office design tips could help lure workers back to the office.
