In the Limelight: Shawn Daniel

In this edition of our “In the Limelight” series, meet Shawn Daniel—a Recruitment Team Lead at Broadleaf India. Shawn heads a sourcing and recruiting team that attracts and hires talent for several premiere Broadleaf clients. His background in technical support for many North American clientele and knowledge of both the industry and technology help him excel as a recruiter and a leader for Broadleaf.

Journey to Broadleaf

My origin is in Kerala, India, a state often referred to as “God’s Own Country,” and I grew up in Chennai, the “cultural capital of India and the Detroit of Asia.” I received my bachelor’s degree in commerce from Annamalai University. After college, I began working as a technical support executive where I assisted in different capacities on several projects, one of which included Microsoft. Seeking a new challenge, I started to search for positions in the sales or business development realm and discovered Broadleaf. I was immediately interested in the company and felt my customer service background made me qualified to apply. Soon after, in 2015, I started my career with Broadleaf as a recruiter.

A passion for the industry

My role as a recruitment team leader entails leading six recruiters and three sourcers who support Broadleaf client accounts across several industries. No day at Broadleaf is ever the same because no client is ever the same, which keeps my job exciting. Each day, I collaborate and build relationships with new stakeholders and clients. Likewise, the workforce solutions industry is always changing. We are now seeing the way the industry has adapted new technology into the talent acquisition process. This change is already visible: video interviews and online assessments now have a huge part in the candidate selection process. Broadleaf embraces these changes, which keeps us ahead of our competition. In fact, I believe that our strong leadership can be credited for the recent number of clients that we have seen on the Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) side of business operations.

Advancing within the organization

There are many different reasons why I enjoy coming to work. Broadleaf has so many growth opportunities. I started as a recruiter and eventually was promoted to a team lead. Additionally, Broadleaf’s leadership truly values employee development and the company culture is encouraging and supportive. At Broadleaf, we have the autonomy to form our own thoughts and ideas and leadership encourages employees to share them to help our business grow and progress. These are qualities that are not found in every company; Broadleaf is truly a progressive and forward-thinking organization.

Life outside of Broadleaf

When I am not working, I spend most of my time with my family. Because I work night shifts all week, I prioritize my weekends to devote time outdoors with my son and daughter. You can also find me in the kitchen baking—my love for baking cakes is something a lot of people don’t know about me. Finally, I hope to travel to the United States with my family one day. I want to take a road trip from the east to the west coast, making stops at all the famous locations and attractions along the way.
