The 10 Must-Read Articles for Recruiters This Week

Top stories of the week

In a sign of what the future of hiring could look like, MGM Resorts International will be giving candidates an early look at the job with high-tech gadgetry. Applicants for hospitality roles (such as a front desk clerk or a gaming table dealer) will soon be able to strap on virtual reality headsets and experience the job in the digital world. This will include getting a sense of the role’s day-to-day responsibilities and even simulations of what MGM calls “difficult guest interactions.”

The hospitality industry as a whole is struggling with a high turnover rate. MGM Resorts hopes this initiative — which will roll out in January — can help. Had VR been used earlier, Laura Lee, MGM Resorts’ CHRO, told Business Insider, “it might’ve resolved some turnover we experienced when people accepted positions and then realized it wasn't quite what they thought it would be.”

If you’re a recruiter in the hospitality industry — or just someone who’s curious about the virtual world — you can learn more about MGM Resorts’ program by checking out the top article in our list below. And don’t worry: a VR headset isn’t required to read that story or any of this week’s must-read articles for talent professionals.
