The 10 Must-Read Articles for Recruiters This Week

Top stories of the week for recruiters

In a new report, consulting firm McKinsey & Company highlights that the past few years has “spurred feelings of liberation for millions of workers who can now envision what they want their jobs to be, not what they have been.”

Despite these changing attitudes, businesses may not need to completely overhaul their sourcing and hiring approach. “Companies,” the report suggests, “don’t have to reinvent their employee value proposition to meet this moment. In fact, they should double down on what that proposition is — a core representation of their culture, purpose, and values — while also expanding their reach into multiple talent pools.”

McKinsey advises that companies go beyond what they call “traditionalist” candidates and actively pursue those workers outside that talent pool, including gig workers, caregivers, recent retirees, and the self-employed. After all, the report says, there aren’t enough “traditionalist” workers to fill open positions (the United States, for example, had 11.3 million open jobs at the end of May), so companies shouldn’t hesitate to dip their toes into every pool available.

No matter the candidate, however, the report does offer one final piece of advice: “This outreach must be creative and authentic. Workers know the difference, and they are voting with their feet.”
