The 10 Must-Read Articles for Recruiters This Week

Top stories of the week for recruiters

We live in confusing economic times. Headlines tell us we’re in a recession, nearing a recession, or maybe even in a boom time. Some companies and industries are struggling to hire enough workers, while others are laying people off. Meanwhile, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported that the unemployment rate has dropped to 3.5%, the lowest it’s been in the U.S. since 1969.

So what are talent professionals to think of this confusing and often conflicting data? Global industry analyst Josh Bersin may have the answer: “Economists,” he writes in a recent blog post, “keep getting it wrong — it’s actually quite simple. The economy is shifting from goods to services, with an ever-increasing need for people.”

You can check out Josh’s article at the top of our list below of must-read articles for talent professionals. Essentially, he highlights that this is a huge transformational moment for companies and navigating it correctly could solve what he calls a hiring “crisis.” “The big message for CEOs and CHROs,” he writes, “is that you have to think about your company differently. No longer can you just ‘recruit’ your way out of this problem. We need what we call ‘systemic HR’ strategies and totally integrated HR operating models that bring together the four R’s: Recruit, Retain, Reskill, and Redesign, all in one integrated way.”

And further down our list, you can also learn why one company hired a “head of team anywhere”; why the term “quiet quitting” may be popping up in your social media feed; and how companies can make real progress in their diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
