The 10 Must-Read Articles for Recruiters This Week

We’ve all read the recent stories about quiet quitting. But it turns out workers are potentially doing something else in hushed tones: networking.

According to a recent article by BBC Worklife, so-called “whisper networks” are on the rise. These networks began as online communities for like-minded professionals to solve problems, advance their skills, and meet new people in their respective industries, but have increasingly become a go-to forum for advancing careers and landing plum roles.

Recruiters with their ears to the ground have taken notice. Many are tapping into these often invite-only networks to source candidates for hard-to-fill roles, especially in the tech industry. Yet some talent professionals have their reservations about this approach. “There can be questions around diversity with invite-only channels,” Carly Mednick, founder of New York–based recruiting company Monday Talent, told BBC Worklife. “There can be a barrier for people who aren’t able to get into these communities because although they may be qualified, they may lack the connections to get into the group if it's ‘exclusive.’”

And further down our list, you can learn why an economic downturn can be a time to cultivate talent instead of implementing layoffs; how to combat the high turnover of chief diversity officers; and why some may describe open plan offices as an “immortal awfulness.”
