Automate recruiting outreach using chatgpt

The release of ChatGPT has made recruiters aware of its potential for outreach and mass messaging. With this Google Sheets extension, you can quickly generate highly customized emails. I was shared a post that Alfie Marsh created about generating sales emails using an extension and chatgpt (I’ve included his screenshots below). In summary, I took this idea and applied it to recruiting below:

Step 1: Download the tool Cargo:

The cargo plugin integrates with ChatGPT, enabling you to craft cold email prompts using custom variables such as {{first name}}.

With this plugin, you can generate thousands of personalized emails from a single prompt, using custom variables like {{first name}}.

Step 2: Add columns in Google Sheets

(first name, last name, job title, company, recent growth, etc) You can input any of type of personalized information at scale.

Step 3: Populate the spread sheet

In this example I’ve search LinkedIn for new job positions within profiles. I entered in their name, job title, company, and key responsibilities mentioned in the job post. This can be done at scale using other scraping tools. I wrote a very comprehensive book about webscraping tools (here).

Step 4: Write the prompt using cargo in google sheets

Step 5: Run the prompt

Cargo will then populate a uniquely personalized email for all the rows in the database using the custom variable that you’ve selected.

Here’s the example:

Here’s the draft email:

Note: The quality of the email is directly correlated to the quality of your prompts. Spend time writing good prompts and you will get some solid results quickly. I wrote a book titled the “Art of the Recruiter message” that focuses on the core fundamentals of writing a message that will get read and replied back to (here).

One more important part..

Deliverability is still important as well – I wrote a post about using those types of tools (here).

Final Thoughts

Imagine doing this for hundred of leads? This could really take your personalized messaging to the next level automatically!

Automated messaging is likely to have a significant impact on recruiters’ roles, potentially streamlining some aspects of their job while also changing the way they interact with candidates. Some ways in which automated messaging may impact recruiters’ roles include:

Increased Efficiency: Automated messaging can help recruiters save time by handling repetitive tasks such as sending initial outreach messages or scheduling interviews.

Improved Candidate Experience: Automated messaging can provide a more seamless, consistent, and personalized candidate experience, helping recruiters build stronger relationships with candidates.

Changes to Communication: Recruiters may need to adapt to communicating with candidates through automated messaging platforms, which could require a different communication style and the use of new tools.

Shifting Focus: With some tasks automated, recruiters may need to focus more on higher-level responsibilities such as building talent pipelines and strategic sourcing.

Overall, the impact of automated messaging on recruiters’ roles will depend on the specific technology and how it’s implemented, but it’s likely to bring both challenges and opportunities for those in the field.
