The 10 Must-Read Articles for Talent Professionals This Week

Stephen Jones, a careers reporter at Business Insider, recently attended a recruitment fair. That may not seem particularly newsworthy in itself, but what if we told you that the fair didn’t take place at your standard arena or convention center and instead was located in the — wait for it — metaverse.

Along with 200 other attendees, Stephen hopped online, chose an avatar, and wandered a virtual convention center high up in the virtual mountains. He listened to presentations from some of the 30 tech companies who were looking to hire, chatted with candidates, and learned more about the open roles available in an interactive exhibitors’ hall.

Stephen enjoyed the experience. “All in all,” he writes, “I think the metaverse could work quite well as a recruitment platform in specific contexts.” But it did take some time for him to get adjusted: “I initially thought that the avatars were quite impersonal and a bit creepy.”
