As we enter a new year, companies and federal agencies are setting their sights on new recruiting goals. With the job market constantly evolving, it’s important to stay ahead of the curve and adapt to the changing landscape.

Even the armed forces are upping their recruiting goals, as the Department of Defense reported, “The Army, the largest service, has a goal of recruiting 55,000 active-duty soldiers during fiscal 2024 and roughly 60,000 for the reserve components.”

The other branches have smaller talent goals, but all services are dealing with similar challenges.

Hiring Goals for 2024

Here are some tips to help your company reach its recruiting goals in the new year.

1. Review and update your job descriptions.

Job descriptions are the first impression candidates have of your company and can make or break their interest in the position. Make sure they accurately reflect the skills and qualifications needed for the job and are written in an engaging and inclusive tone. It could be beneficial to do an overall hiring process audit, as well.

2. Leverage social media.

With the continuing rise of social media, it’s easier than ever to reach a wider audience. Even utilize non-professional or personal use platforms to share job openings and company culture, and engage with potential candidates.

3. Focus on employee referrals.

Employee referrals are a great way to find qualified candidates who are already vetted by someone within the company. Offer incentives for referrals and encourage employees to share job openings within their networks.

4. Attend job fairs and networking events.

In-person events are still a valuable way to connect with potential candidates and showcase your company. Attend job fairs and industry events to meet with candidates face-to-face and build relationships.

5. Make team hiring metrics known across the company.

Engage with your employees, hiring managers, and higher level leadership to let them know what the recruitment team plans to do this year. Continue to share updates through company newsletters, include specific hiring data points (like billets filled, key personnel submitted, etc.), and plan for what targets your recruiters should hit (i.e., phone calls made, messages sent, interviews conducted, and offers made).
