Tony Beshara

Clouds of international development information

I got a vivid image of new possibilities for mashing up data a few weeks ago at Forum One's Online Community Summit in Sonoma. For me the highlight of the event (though there were many highlights) was a talk given by Owen Barder of AidInfo. He spoke of his vision for a "cloud of aid information". Owen is based in Ethiopia; his wife works for an NGO that builds clinics.

Messaging meets "the Cloud"

Forum One

There is a lot of excitement these days about "The Cloud" and how we can mash up web content in new and innovative ways. At the same time, many groups that we work with are overwhelmed by too many emails, workspaces, group sites, social networks, and other sources of messages, discussions, and knowledge. Wouldn't it be great if all the knowledge and human interactions that we each need to access and respond to each day were organized in ways we need it rather than by what tools or sites we use?

Taleo Revisited

And so it is that earlier this year I did the video post below on Taleo's acquisition of Vurv about which I received nastygrams from apparent Taleo fans. Fast forward a few months and Taleo's market cap has fallen so fast and furious - granted in a bear market - that its entire value is scarcely above what it paid for Vurv.
