You Can't Get There from Here

Staffing Talk

Software evolves. Rarely, if ever, can you set out on a direct path to get a desired result. You have to take the software through stages, many difficult to predict and all susceptible to platform changes and other life changing events. I've used this fact several times. TempWorks beat out an army of Ernst and Young consultants in the 1990s to win most of Manpower's franchise business.

Never Leave Work Between 4pm and 6pm

Staffing Talk

Even though I live less than two miles from my office, I rarely leave the office during rush hour. The world would be a better place if we all followed the advice of OmniNerd (can you believe their is such a site?). They have proven that your nuts if you leave work beween 4pm and 6pm. Staffing Talk

Most VMS systems fail. They fail to provide the client with quality candidates. They fail to produce the promised economies. And they most certainly fail to get buy-in from the staffing providers. Letters-Of-Intent and Professional Employment Organizations (PEOs)

Staffing Talk

We frequently hear some terms around TempWorks that can complicate our work. Today I’ll cover two of them, Letters-Of-Intent (LOI) and Professional Employer Organization (PEO). Letter of Intent Diamond vendors want to make it sound easy. Ask a girl to marry you with the right hardware involved, and the deal will go down without problems they say. Things are never so simple either in life or in the software business version of wedding engagements: Letters-Of-Intent.

Three Reasons Why We Don't Get The Sale

Staffing Talk

I tried for months to get my first software contract in 1982. I tried everything from running ads to cold-calling. I failed so badly it was depressing. A few things finally coincided that made it happen. The first was that my boss at the time really pissed me off, to the point that my motivation level to make the break reached a peak. The second was that, as luck would have it [note: the more you work the luckier you get], a woman that I worked with in Spain happened to take a job with a French

Old Girlfriends, Microsoft Access and My New Love: LLBL
