In a 2018 eye-tracking study, it was reported that recruiters spend only seven seconds reviewing a resume. Time is money in recruiting, so some tasks are brief and to the point so you can do more to fill a vacant billet. Catching keywords in those seven seconds does create more time for the recruiter, but for some tasks, recruiters should be taking more of their time.

A recruiter’s relationship with their position’s respective hiring manager is essential to how successful the hiring process functions within an organization. A hiring manager that has lost trust in their recruiter is a sure and fast way to lead to a toxic work environment, low morale, and unhappy customers.

BUILDING CONNECTIONS INTERNALLY

Recruiters are constantly building connections with applicants and potential candidates, but rarely take the time to do so internally with hiring managers. Whether it’s because they don’t want to waste a manager’s time, or because they feel they have a decent grasp on what they are recruiting for, recruiters should feel like a valuable piece of the company machine – and definitely should not feel like they are wasting a hiring manager’s time.

Face-to-face meetings ensure that all parties understand the task at hand, and can help show the hiring manager how valuable of a recruiter you actually are.

What do recruiters bring to the table?

  • They build the talent pipeline for (many!) hiring managers.
  • They are the face of the organization to your next generation of employees.
  • They are the intermediary between hiring managers and cleared talent.
  • They are a partner to the hiring managers in assessing the right candidate pool.
  • They are a little bit of culture, a little bit of marketing, and a lot of bit of a people person.

Staffers need to continue to build meaningful connections outside of the organizations because, well, that’s their job. But they should continue to foster the connections within the organization to ensure they are doing their job best.
