ODNI just posted (and filled) the perfect job for the candidate who wants to learn about UFOs…aka Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP). Although the DoD’s Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG) might be a great fit for the highly curious candidates interested in knowing what’s “out there” it’s also a part of the DoD’s strategy to protect military airspace and understand unexplained and mysterious objects that have been spotted. This is one of those jobs for candidates in the Intelligence Community (IC) who already have a Top Secret/SCI clearance. The newly established AOIMSG may have more openings down the road. Legislators have raised concerns over UAPs, passing legislation on it in the FY2022 NDAA, federally mandating investigation of UAPs. ODNI plans for the positions to synchronize analytical efforts with Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the National Security Agency (NSA), and other members in the IC. If political pressure keeps up on UAPs, more positions could open up in the future.
Layoffs Impacting the Cleared Industry
Draken International
Aerospace and defense company, Draken International is laying off 100 employees after losing its Adair II contact with the U.S. Air Force. Layoffs go into effect this week on May 20.
Draken International provides operational readiness training for U.S. and Allied militaries. Under the Air Force contract, Draken offered adversary air services at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, helping pilots deal with real world threats. The contract loss meant a permanent facility closing.

Newport News Shipbuilding has a target of adding 5,000 people this year, with a forecasted need of hiring 21,000 over the next decade.
“The message is: we’re hiring. And we don’t just build ships, we build careers,” Xavier Beale, vice president of human resources and trades said. Beale was once a one-time pipefitter, but now sits in a different role in the organization. With a graying and experienced workforce, along with a backlog in work, Newport News Shipbuilding is on a hiring spree.

Opportunity to Watch
L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:LHX) has received a $297 million IDIQ contract increase for its Falcon® IV AN/PRC-167 radio systems from the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).
USSOCOM increased the initial IDIQ ceiling from $255 million to $552 million. This follows two orders in Q4 2021 totalling $36 million, the latest in a series of full-rate production orders in support of the Next Generation Tactical Communications (NGTC) program.
“Reaching the original IDIQ ceiling 15 months following the first full-rate production order in 2021 illustrates the excellent rate of adoption of the AN/PRC-167, which is currently fielded by U.S. Special Operations Forces,” said Chris Aebli, President, Tactical Communications, L3Harris. “The success of this program, and our long-standing relationships with USSOCOM, demonstrates L3Harris’ ability to take on the challenges faced by SOF operators and their platforms. We’re delivering solutions that provide more capability and resilience than any other systems.”
To date, USSOCOM and L3Harris have produced more than 20,000 NGTC systems, which includes the AN/PRC-167 manpack and AN/PRC-163 handheld, to connect and empower SOF throughout their missions.
L3Harris’ extensive library of waveforms extends the United States’ advantage via software updates for future capabilities and resilient waveforms. The waveforms provide comprehensive interoperability with U.S. and global partners. Software updates for emerging capabilities will provide and maintain true resilience against threats from peer adversaries.
