We’re Hiring: Detail-Obsessed Proofreader

I need help.

No, not that kind of help. The help of a detail-obsessed proofreader. Do you know anyone?

At Three Ears Media, we do a lot of writing. Obviously. But we also do a lot of interviewing to hear employee stories. We’re working on some short-term, large-scale interview and candidate experience projects, and our formatting must be flawless. You’ll proof interview transcriptions, PowerPoint presentations, and research recap documents.

Here’s what i’m looking for:

  1. Insanely detailed, especially on long, tedious tasks. If your friends don’t describe you as borderline annoying when it comes to details, you might not thrive in this work. You’ll be managing 30+ page documents and 50+ slide PowerPoint presentations. I’m looking for the person who is 26 pages into a 52-page appendix and still finds every formatting inconsistency. Gets oddly excited about it, too.
  2. Follow-through. You are on time, if not earlier, than the upfront estimates you offer. You get a special kind of joy knowing things are ahead of schedule
  3. Fast turn around. You have the availability and skill to get five pages of transcription into a consistent format in 1 business day, not a few weeks.
  4. Funky reader. I’m not looking for a writer, copy editor, or experienced editor, but I am looking for a reader. Someone who goes, “wait, that sounds weird. I don’t get it.” You’ll highlight and tag those paragraphs for me to rewrite.
  5. Tech savvy. Really, Google savvy. You’ve mastered the page layout and know why that stupid bullet won’t move. I don’t use Microsoft until we download the final product. We also manage every project in Basecamp.

Applications are open today thru September 8th. Then, we’ll do interviews. I want someone to start the week of September 21st. My team has already started this project, and it will be rolling for a minimum of 6 weeks, if not longer.

Before we talk applying know that this is a project-based, hourly role paying somewhere between $20 and $30 an hour. There’s no plan for a full-time position at this moment. If business booms, that’s a different story.

Here’s how to apply.

I’ll make this simple. Fill out this form. https://forms.gle/o5W59r1E1ArPxJP89

Here’s what I’m asking you to share.

  1. LinkedIn profile. Full transparency: I’ll be reading the About section and likely scanning your recommendations.
  2. Tell me 3 inconsistencies you see in this post. To be clear, it makes my head hurt to post with obvious errors, but it’s the perfect work sample for this gig.
  3. Your hourly rate.
  4. In no more than 5 sentences, tell me why you’re applying to this. In short, tell me what you’ve done that makes you the most badass, detail-obsessed proofreader.

About Three Ears MEdia

I refuse to write about myself in 3rd person. That’s just weird.

So here’s the deal. I started Three Ears Media because hiring is hard. We manage one of the most unpredictable variables in the world: people.

The one thing we can control in this equation? How we ask. I have a team of amazing writers and editors who specialize in HR and recruiting that have mastered the ask whether it comes in the form of a career site, email, or job posting.

I don’t think the way we ask should be something I make up, so everything we do at Three Ears starts with listening. We interview the people living this job/department/company, and translate their stories into strategies that attract smart, talented people who can thrive just like this person already is.

This company is women-owned, dog-friendly, 100% remote, and founded on the belief that the status quo isn’t good enough in the world of work. I’m building the company I dreamt about while I worked in corporate America for 15 years as a copywriter, managing editor, and CMO.

Let’s have some fun and do some great work.
