Our Salaries Aren’t Huge, Yet We Retain Talent: Here’s Our Secret

Staffing Talk

A year ago I decided to follow in my father’s footsteps by working for his staffing company. I’ve since been doing a lot of training on recruiting, social media, networking, skill marketing, and lead hunting by attending seminars, participating in webinars, and writing recruiting blogs. The hope being that, by the time I hit the sales field, I’m running with all the tools I need to be successful.

Why Didn’t They Call 911?

Staffing Talk

We at Staffing Talk are in a state of shock after reading a story about the death of a factory temp worker and the legal action that followed. We were shocked initially because we don’t remember hearing about this story when it happened a year ago (or else we would have written this then), but mostly we’re in shock because of the ridiculous incompetence described of the factory’s management in the allegations filed against them.

He does the crystal ball thing on a daily basis, not just at the end/beginning of the year.

Math Problem of the Week

Staffing Talk

I gave this problem to various relatives on Christmas and only my niece who is taking AP Statistics could answer it. Here it is: “Johny is a sweet hard-working high school sophomore but as fate would have it his mother gets a call from Johny’s guidance counselor telling her that Johny has tested positive for an illegal narcotic. The test in question is 99% accurate for both users and non-users of the narcotic.

Boss Fires Assistant for Being Too “Irresistible”

Staffing Talk

We’ve always known this tried-and-true adage, but now it’s finally legal precedent thanks to the Iowa Supreme Court: Employers are not responsible for their sexual desires, the hot employees who coax them are. According to this recent ruling , a 50-year-old dentist fired a stellar assistant of 10 years on the grounds of “irresistible attraction.” The assistant filed a discrimination suit against him, but the employer and his wife viewed the assistant as a threat to their marriage, and according

The Christmas Staffing Talk Spirit Subsides Quickly

Staffing Talk

Like many Staffing Talk readers, I have comments about our stories funneled straight into my inbox. A few comments about this June Obamacare post I wrote showed up on Christmas day, and the pace has accelerated with some angst and anger and aggravation today. And some of the comments even had to do with Obamacare. Others, not so much. Since not everyone subscribes to said comments, I thought I would put up another post here, with a few of the “highlights” as it were.

The Rules Do Apply: Navigating HR Compliance

Speaker: Ann Meyers Piccirillo

HR Compliance is like a giant game of whack-a-mole. Once you think your company is compliant with all policies and procedures documented and in place, there’s a new or amended law, regulation, or final rule that pops up landing you back at ‘start.’ There are shifts, interpretations, and balancing acts to understanding compliance changes. Keeping up is not easy and it’s very time consuming.
