Tony Beshara

most people don’t know what to expect from a recruiter…they will act like they do because the don’t want to appear ignorant…. there are at least 9 or 10 different types of recruiters and they often function very differently…retained search folks, contingency recruiters, “placers,” internal corporate recruiters…all work quite differently. often when potential candidates contact or are contacted by a recruiter their expectations are not met because the recruiter failed to set them and the candida

Fundraising and outreach in a changing economy

Forum One

Earlier this week I (Michaela Hackner) was in Austin, TX attending the Convio 2008 Summit , a national conference focused on the use of the Convio's constituent relations management tool. Attendees primarily consisted of nonprofit organizations seeking to grow their donor base while also continuing to engage their existing audience. In normal economic times, this is not an easy task.

Carre d'Agneau avec de l'Asperge Grillee a la Gregoire

Staffing Talk

My wif'e's down in Peru doing cleft palate surgeries with a bunch of other docs which leaves me cooking for the first time in about 12 years. Normally, as in before I was married normally, or rather before I had seven kids normally, I would have just high-tailed it down to La Belle Vie, the Twin Cities finest chef-owned French restaurant. But no, I've only got an hour to cook and eat before carting the 12-year-old off to a basketball game.

Want your own Google Map interface? Try Google Maps' My Maps

Forum One

I love maps - love reading them, analyzing them, staring at them - anything. I can spend tons of time doing this. When Google Earth came out I played with it for hours - [ahem] not on company time, of course - and when Google Maps interfaces started coming out, I wanted one. Alas, I had not the technical skill to create a mash-up with the Google Maps API.

Ten Years of Learning -- ?Audience, Audience, Audience?

Forum One

I was recently struck again by a decade-old lesson in Forum One's web strategy work: Organizations eagerly developing new web tools often skip the critical step of figuring out what their target audiences are actually interested in. This step is usually essential and often overlooked. This time I was reminded in a general discussion amongst over 50 NGO managers and policy makers at a learning forum convened by the Global Water Challenge.

Messaging meets "the Cloud"

There is a lot of excitement these days about "The Cloud" and how we can mash up web content in new and innovative ways. At the same time, many groups that we work with are overwhelmed by too many emails, workspaces, group sites, social networks, and other sources of messages, discussions, and knowledge. Wouldn't it be great if all the knowledge and human interactions that we each need to access and respond to each day were organized in ways we need it rather than by what tools or sites we use?
