OpenAI has introduced options like “opt-out” and “disable history” to enhance data privacy, but it’s essential for users to actively select these safeguards.

While some regulations, such as the UK’s Data Protection and Digital Information Bill and the EU’s proposed AI Act, are steps in the right direction, Thacker notes that there’s still uncertainty about how companies using generative AI will handle user data.
