This month, we’re featuring Talent Acquisition Specialist Kyle Muldoon in our “In the Limelight” series. A former music teacher, Kyle ended up making the shift to the talent acquisition industry in 2022. Today, Kyle plays an integral role in keeping Broadleaf’s managed service programs (MSPs) running smoothly and delivering quality talent for candidates. Read on to learn more about Kyle’s journey to Broadleaf and why he thinks the company is a great place to work. 

Journey to Broadleaf 

I grew up in a town about 20 minutes outside of Syracuse, New York. I have lived in Pennsylvania and Colorado, but eventually found my way back home to Upstate New York. I currently live in downtown Buffalo with my fiancée and our cat, Winnie. 

I completed my Bachelor’s in Music Education at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania and my Master’s in Music Education at the University of Northern Colorado. 

I landed my first teaching job fresh out of college near York, Pennsylvania.  I loved the kids and the staff there, but I knew it would be a pit stop in the journey. I visited some friends in Colorado in the summer of 2016 and realized that living out there was exactly what I needed. The thought of exploring the mountains while studying and playing music with friends was too good of an opportunity to pass up. Looking back, it was a leap of faith that I’m proud to have tried out! 

I moved back to Syracuse after completing my Master’s and worked as a part-time barista, where I met my fiancé. She ended up moving back to Buffalo, where she is from originally, and I did the same in the summer of 2022 to be with her and pursue a different career. After deciding that teaching was no longer my path, I was fortunate to see a LinkedIn posting for a Talent Scout with Broadleaf Results. I learned more about the role in the interview process and was shocked by how quickly the offer arrived. I couldn’t wait to get started! 

Life at Broadleaf 

So much of what makes Broadleaf an incredible place to work is the commitment we all share toward serving and delivering quality talent for our customers. I can draw from my past experiences as a teacher and my 7+ years as a produce clerk at Wegmans. It takes a lot of people pulling in the same direction for a MSP to flourish, and I have always loved being a part of a bigger cause. 

As a Talent Acquisition Specialist, I serve as a point of contact on two of Broadleaf’s MSP programs. I help suppliers get their candidates started and track onboarding progress for our customers. I also develop reports on a regular cadence and ensure that interview and offer feedback is given on time. I also process invoices and monitor the status of timesheets and work order issues in the vendor management system (VMS), among other things. 

I love the challenge of learning about new industries and roles. The contingent labor space is always changing, so the need for flexibility is always there. 

The Broadleaf Difference 

There is always a new hiring need to be met or a new manager to work with. My goal has always been to be in a position where I can serve clients while continuing to learn and grow. Broadleaf has provided me with the opportunity to do both. 

Considering the ever-evolving technological landscape we’re currently in, I don’t think any talent acquisition professional could predict with 100% certainty what the next few years will look like. But I am confident that Broadleaf will continue adapting to the changing talent needs of our customers and improve the candidate experience. One trend we’re beginning to see is direct sourcing, which can help companies cut costs and improve their employer brand. 

Life Outside of Work 

Outside of work, music has always been a passion of mine. I can play roughly 20 different instruments and teach them to all age levels. It’s never too late to learn an instrument! I have been a vegetarian for the last six years. Animal rights have been a passion of mine since I was a kid, but adapting my cooking to fit my new lifestyle has been exciting and daunting all the same. 

Maintaining a better work-life balance was one of the main motivators in switching professions, and I am grateful to have found a place that provides and values this. 

My weekends tend to consist of downtime and some much needed R&R from the constant drive to do the best I can for our customers on a daily basis. I enjoy spending quality time with my fiancée, watching a new movie, or heading out to try one of the many local restaurants the city has to offer. A couple of our favorite spots are Ballyhoo and Big Ditch Brewery.
