EASY WAYS TO AVOID SOME OF THE BIGGEST INTERVIEW MISTAKES

A job interview is chock full of all kinds of unexpected twists and turns.  More often than not, the road to getting hired is full of surprises that have nothing to do with your qualifications.  But we want to let you in on a little secret.  Survey says that the biggest interview mistake you can make is…drumroll please…

BEING LATE!

A recent SimplyHired.com survey checked in with 850 hiring managers who found that arriving late to an interview was the top reason a manager would change their answer from “yes” to “no.”  To show up on time, you have to give yourself PLENTY of extra time to get to the interview location.

Also, playing the blame game is a total turn-off.  Be tactful about disclosing your opinions, and be gracious! Potential future employers won’t be so forgiving about your whining—they see this behavior as an indication of how you might act around them.

The good news? These behaviors are within your control, and you can easily fix them.

So what can you do to impress an interviewer? We will tell you:

1. Show up prepared.

2. Arrive early.

3. Be diplomatic when asked about why you are leaving your old job and looking for a new one.

4. Follow-up in a timely and professional manner.

Realize that you have more control than you think. The power to influence the outcome of your job interview starts with you! Happy hunting!
