Best Places to Work Inspires Great Ideas

For the second year in a row, Quantcast is proud to be recognized as a Glassdoor Best Place to Work. At its core, Quantcast is a people-powered big data company. While we believe in the potential for big data to radically improve the online experience, we celebrate the great people behind our technology and the one-of-a-kind work environment our employees helped to create.

Much of Quantcast’s success, in both company culture and business, is driven by our dedication to supporting and growing new ideas. Quantcast was founded on a revolutionary new idea for what advertising could be. Instead of broadcasting the same ad to an audience of millions, we’ve harnessed the power of big data to deliver the most pertinent ads to each viewer, each time.

Why broadcast a generic message when you can ‘Quantcast’ to the viewer’s unique interests? As we’ve grown to a company of nearly 800 people globally, we continue to seek out new ways for our people and technology to power more joyful, connected experiences online.

How do we do this? Here’s how:

Celebrating creativity

Quantcast rewards and encourages innovation. We are constantly thinking of new ways to tap into the creativity of our workforce to improve every aspect of our business. A perfect example of this is Quantathon, our annual company-wide hackathon. Founded on the belief that great ideas can come from anywhere in the company, the Quantathon challenges participants to dream big and develop game-changing ideas for the business -- from addressing the major challenges within the advertising technology industry to making smaller improvements such as a data monitoring tool that creates original Dubstep music.

The Quantathon is an opportunity for all employees, including interns, to step outside of their day-to-day jobs and apply their creativity to solving problems and inventing new solutions. Winning proposals often go straight into production or lead to tangible business improvements. The competition has produced an impressive number of business innovations, including a popular customer training event that we’ve rolled out across all our global offices, the Political Interests feature of our Quantcast Measure product, and a new brand advertising product that has already generated meaningful revenue.

A side benefit of programs like the Quantathon is the creative mindset that spills into other areas of our company culture. Every year, we have a Home Brew Competition where employees submit original beer and wine creations - from Ginger Beers and Chocolate Milk Stouts to Jalapeño Wheats, Pear Ciders, and more. The judging process makes this is one of the most popular and lively company events of the year!

Getting to the heart of it

At Quantcast, we are guided by an ongoing commitment to doing right by both the industry and our clients. While others in the industry may follow the norm, we don’t hesitate to challenge the status quo where and when we believe it will lead to a better outcome for everyone. This philosophy is reflected in the ways we encourage all employees to align around the customer’s needs. We host customer hackathons where executives from many of our top clients join us at headquarters to describe their toughest business challenges to our Product Managers and Engineers. Our team then spends the next 24 hours developing new products or solutions to address those challenges. The client executives select the winners and the new solutions are added to our product roadmap. This is one of many ways we’ve broken down traditional processes in pursuit of crafting better, more impactful solutions immediately relevant to our customers.

Staying hungry

On top of the Quantathon and customer hackathons, Quantcast also encourages employees to generate new ideas through our patent incentive program. We have a talented team of patent specialists on staff who are fully dedicated to working with employees across the business to surface patentable ideas. Thus far, this has resulted in 25 issued patents and a strong pipeline of pending patent applications.

Employees at all levels have contributed to our patent portfolio and have been recognized with generous rewards. It’s a great incentive to keep the creativity up and “stay hungry” for innovative, new ideas. One way we don’t stay hungry, however, is in our office kitchens -- we keep our teams energized throughout the day with catered lunches and dinners plus an endless assortment of delicious snacks!

Balancing it all

To support this culture of ideation, Quantcast has a robust learning and development function. From ‘Lunch and Learns’ to Toastmasters to meditation groups and more, Quantcast creates numerous opportunities for employees to grow in and outside of the workplace. Data for Good is our philanthropy arm which provides employees with opportunities to volunteer in the local communities near each of our offices. Our GRIT (Grow. Inspire. Train.) program supports women on their path to success with skill-building workshops, inspiring speakers and community-building throughout the year. Recognizing the incredible people that come to work at Quantcast, we highly value our active alumni network and we even provide an alumni referral bonus program.

We also understand the importance of unwinding at the end of each week. On Friday afternoons, we catch up with co-workers at our weekly Beer Cart. Wine, beer, board games, ping pong and pool make for the perfect end to a busy week.

Quantcast is home to some of the tech industry’s brightest and most respected talent across engineering, data science, sales, marketing, finance, and more. We strive to create a workplace that inspires and unites that rich and varied talent pool, while strengthening and contributing to the company’s vibrant culture. Here’s to new ideas!
