Forum One

We've all been there. Your boss walks up to your desk and has a great vision for what the team needs to accomplish, and it’s up to you to make it happen, and you don’t know where to start. Maybe it’s not your boss, maybe it’s a client, or maybe it’s your idea, but you just don’t know how to bring this vision into reality.

“You Didn’t Build That Staffing Company”

Staffing Talk

Ok, those weren’t his exact words, but our president came close this last week. Here is the actual quote: If you’ve got a business— you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the internet so that all the companies could make money off the internet. The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.

Staffing Fiasco Threatens Security at Olympics

Staffing Talk

Staffing professionals know how just one no-show can damage a client relationship, but how would you like to tell a client that you came up just a bit worse, like 6,000 people short on a job order? That’s what happened this last week to Nick Buckles, Chief Executive of G4S, whose security firm was supposed to supply more than 10,000 security staff for the upcoming Olympics but found himself in front of Parliament’s Home Affairs Committee being grilled for only supplying 4,000.

The Economics of Public Golf Courses

Staffing Talk

One regret I have on my last day of vacation here in Hayward, WI, is that I didn’t get a chance to play Hayward Golf Club, a public course that ranks as one of the best of all courses in Wisconsin. I did though get in a discussion about it at the breakfast café with the guy on the next stool who used to own a private par-3 course in the area. Given his position, I was expecting him to be against publicly financed facilities and while he did mention the inherent unfairness of one establishment (t

The Works 2012: Sold Out

Staffing Talk

This week we will kick off our first ever industry conference: The Works 2012. We had an overwhelming response — the event sold out within a few weeks. Of course, to say it “sold out” might be a bit of a stretch. The event is basically free to attend. But we are just as excited all the same. You really don’t like to send some people away, but we had to.

The Rules Do Apply: Navigating HR Compliance

Speaker: Ann Meyers Piccirillo

HR Compliance is like a giant game of whack-a-mole. Once you think your company is compliant with all policies and procedures documented and in place, there’s a new or amended law, regulation, or final rule that pops up landing you back at ‘start.’ There are shifts, interpretations, and balancing acts to understanding compliance changes. Keeping up is not easy and it’s very time consuming.

Politics Trumps Problem Solving

I don’t often watch the Sunday news shows from Washington. In fact, the last time I saw one was, well, I can’t remember the last time.
